Visit A Museum In St. Paul

If you’re looking for an exciting way to spend a rainy or snowy Minnesota day near Valley Creek Apartments, head to one of the specialty museums in St. Paul. They offer much to see and include:

Minnesota Transportation Museum

The Jackson Street Roundhouse is home to the Transportation Museum’s headquarters, and it displays fifty historic train cars along with vintage buses and a genuine operating roundhouse turntable that is one of the last of its kind in the United States. Visitors can climb aboard the trains, watch as restoration train parts are made in the blacksmith shop, and observe the crew hard at work restoring train cars. Every Saturday, even in the winter, the museum offers train rides that last about fifteen minutes.

Julian H. Sleeper House

Born in 1854, Julian H. Sleeper was a successful St. Paul entrepreneur, theatrical promoter, and real estate speculator. In 1894, he hired an architect to build his dream home, and today visitors will see the various rooms filled with period furnishings. It also houses “The President James A. Garfield Collection.” The collection includes artwork showing the president with Secretary of State James G. Blaine and an unauthorized full-color clothing store advertisement that features the president and his entire cabinet.

Twin City Model Railroad Museum

What began from humble beginnings is now a world-class museum known as the Twin City Model Railroad Museum. It displays several exhibits including Night Trains Season. This unique exhibit opens on the first Saturday in November and runs through the last Saturday in February. With the lights turned down, the specially lighted models create an amazing scene as they make their way through a town buried in a blizzard.
