Watching a live performance is a fun way to spend an evening, and residents of Valley Creek Apartments find that the Guthrie Theater is an easy drive away.
Founded in 1963 by Sir Tyrone Guthrie, the theater states that it’s dedicated to producing the great works of dramatic literature, developing playwrights, and cultivating the next generation of theater artists.
Upcoming performances include:
Sunday in the Park with George (through August 20)
Written by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine, this award-winning musical combines the past and present to tell the story of an obsessive painter who risks it all to finish his masterpiece. One hundred years later, while in search of artistic inspiration, his great-grandson realizes that the answer to his future is painted in his past.
Native Gardens (through August 20)
This hilarious new comedy is where cultures and gardens clash, turning well-intentioned neighbors into feuding enemies. Sit back and watch as Pablo and Tania buy a home next to Frank and Virginia, a wealthy couple with an impressive English garden. During the planning of a barbecue for Pablo’s colleagues, the couples begin quarreling over the fence line which quickly exposes both couples’ ideas of class, privilege, race, and taste.
Romeo and Juliet (September 9 – October 28)
For the third time in Guthrie’s history, it is producing this timeless tale of star-crossed lovers. Set in Verona where the Capulet’s and Montague’s have a long-standing feud, the audience will watch as this play pits the bitterness of resentment against the intensity of romance.
