Now that spring has arrived, it’s time to spend more fun-filled weekends outdoors.
The Saint Paul Parks and Recreation Department offers fun sports, lessons, and so much more. Let’s take a look at some of what visitors and residents of Valley Creek apartments can enjoy:
Indian Mounds Regional Park – This unique park is home to six Native American burial mounds, that according to the department’s website, sit high atop 450-million-year-old limestone and sandstone bluffs overlooking downtown St. Paul. It’s thought the mounds were created approximately 1,500 to 2,000 year ago, and today, the park also features a biking trail, hiking trail, picnic area, and a playground.
Great River Waterpark – Open year-round, Great River Waterpark is a premier indoor aquatics facility known for offering lap swim, water aerobics, and swimming lessons. Features include water slides, a one-meter diving board, and sauna.
Sailing – Sailing is a fun, yet challenging sport, which is why the department offers classes designed to provide students with the skills needed for an enjoyable and safe recreational sailing experience. They’re held at the Phalen Lakeside Activity Center, and topics include sailing terminology, useful knots, and rigging.
Rice and Arlington Sports Complex – This sports complex offers something for everyone as it is home to batting cages and fields for softball, soccer, football, and lacrosse. There is also a multipurpose room that holds classes in aerobics, karate, and more.
Pig’s Eye Regional Park – Pig’s Eye is popular for its hiking trails and bird watching area, especially since it contains one of the largest urban heron and egret rookeries in the Midwest. It also has an archery range containing six targets.
